United States Army ServiceEdit
During a mission in Afghanistan, Captain Stevens' helicopter was hit by enemy gunfire, nearly killing him. He was serverly injured to the extent that his brain was almost all that was left functioning.
Source Code MissionEdit
After his near death, he was officially declared as deceased, but his body was appropriated by the United States Air Force and given to Dr. Rutlege to use to enter the Source Code.
Stevens awakens on a train in an alternate reality created by the Source Code. He is unaware of how he was put there or why.
- "It's the new me."
- — Colter Stevens as Sean Fentress
With the information he had uncovered from previous trips into the Source Code, Stevens was able to defuse the bomb and capture Frost before he could destroy the train. Frost was arrested by the police and the people on the train were saved. Stevens and Christina kissed in the last seconds before the plug was to be pulled at the eight-minute mark. In that instant, Goodwin turned off his life support per his request, but to Stevens' surprise, his mind remained in Sean Fentress' body. He was able to safely leave the train with Christina and the rest of the passengers.
A New RealityEdit
- "Lily awoke in an evening dress in an outbrook look. In her hand were 5 playing cards. At some point today, you're gonna hear about a failed terrorist attack on a commuter train near Chicago. You and I kept that bomb from going off. If you're reading this e-mail, then Source Code works even better than you and Dr. Rutledge imagined. You thought you were creating 8 minutes of a past event, but you're not. You've created a whole new world. Goodwin, if I'm right, somewhere at the Source Code facility, you have a Captain Colter Stevens waiting to send on a mission. Promise me you'll help him. And when you do, do me a favor: tell him everything is gonna be okay."
- — Colter Stevens in a note to an alternate Goodwin
Now in the alternate universe, where the bomb was defused, the alternate version of Goodwin received an email from a now free and assuming the identity of Sean Fentress, Stevens, explaining what has happened and how the Source Code works by connecting (or creating) alternate realities. The alternate version of Goodwin received the letter before she was even aware of the operation or of the bomb that will explode on the train later that day. Stevens asked her to listen to him and consider his requests once her communication began with the Captain Colter Stevens inside the chamber she soon will find out about.
